Awwwww . . .
And now a shout-out to our pal Kevin Cobb, world-class page designer for a certain newspaper in the Sunshine State. Check out his awes site, ohmykevin.com, and check out who he’s stalking. We love it.

We hate it when our friends become successful. →
No, no. We’re just kidding. The above link goes to our friend Peter Terzian’s New York Times debut — a “Night Out” feature that ran Sunday on Liam Finn. Very cool. Mr. Terzian (NYT-esque, huh?) and I spent many Monday planning meetings together at Newsday in the corner office. As if Mondays weren’t bad enough. Peter (back to laid-back Kevs style) also wrote a...

“Aww, that video was much better… I like how Jo treats you like the paparazzi :>)” — from Glenn Yep. That’s me, annoying shutterbug.
At long last, the second Web video shot by moi. I am blaming my deceased computer for not making this happen sooner. This was shot last month at a fantastic playground our friend Laurie told us about. We won’t say much else — we don’t want the place to be totally overrun with rugrats. As you can see, there is a carousel. And lots of smiles for a dollar a ride. We invoke...

Big time, take two -- South Florida edition.
The Avenged Sevenfold story was picked up by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel today. Next stop, Lakeland Ledger! But seriously, at least the Sun-Sentinel version corrected a few silly typos created by Newsday’s new spellchecker. So “Green Bay” was changed back to “Green Day” and Johnny Christ’s real name was fixed. Oh, well.

Read it and weep. I know I did.
Not really about the style fight, but . . .
Nice site. You spelled your name right, too. — from Rand
Style response.
Definitely wiz. — from Emily Thank you, the management.
Style fight!
No, not over square-toe vs. round-toe men’s shoes (square is out, FYI). The other night while on duty at a South Florida newspaper, the question came up: Which is it — “whiz” or “wiz”? Actually, I am the one who raised the question, because they were letting a sentence like this go into the paper: Joe Blow is a whiz at math. I spoke up and said: ”...
The big time.
The Sara Bareilles story for Newsday was picked up on Sunday in the fabulous Sun Journal of Lewiston, Maine (temperature at this posting, about 19 degrees). A few more of these and I’ll be working at the Bangor Daily News in no time.
It ain't me, babe.
So I am procrastinating in compiling what could be one of the final Amorim Big Gigs columns for the Newsday and I decide to go ego surfing on Google. So this site, kevinamorim.com, comes up on the second page of results. Yay. But before this site by this Kevin Amorim is listed I find this ‘un: http://kevin-amorim.skyrock.com/profil/. It’s a Facebook-like page of a lad of 16 living...
Tossing another grenade into the Phish-ing hole.
This site can’t be all sugar and spice. Word is that one of the world’s most annoying bands, Phish, will be honored May 7 at the annual Jammys with a lifetime achievement award. If you ask us, the band’s sordid (drugs, weird fascination with Hell’s Angels’ young children, drugs) lifetime was too long by half. Worse yet, there are rumors that the Vermont burnouts...
So sad.
We saw this on Defamer a few weeks ago. Terry Lawson, the guy who — for better or worse — inspired us early on, has left the building. The Detroit Free Press offered him a buyout at the end of 2007. He took it and now the Freep is the largest newspaper in the country without a full-time film critic. He was excellent. Read the story here defamer.com/tag/terry-lawson/.

Aha! More NYC-area shows of note.
MONDAY 3/3 EMERY. Ah, some nice, soothing screamo for y’all. (6 p.m., Blender Theater at the Gramercy, 127 E. 23rd St., Manhattan, 212-777-6800. $17.) TUESDAY 3/4 DENGUE FEVER. Can we point out that Newsday’s Rafer Guzmán wrote about Dengue Fever almost a year before anyone else, ahem — we mean The New York Times — ahem. (8 p.m., Mercury Lounge, 217E. Houston St.,...
Carnies = I want my mommy.
Why do carnies have: 1. loads of tattoos 2. dirty hands 3. a cigarette in their mouths at all times?
My first Web video, shot the other day at a scary carnival. Jojo and Ollie are in the blur of feet and hands flying by. By the way, I know “scary carnival” is redundant. The kids loved the rickety rides nonetheless, until Oliver threw up later in the evening.

More to come.
I will be teaching myself Web video soon. And possibly audio.
Some NYC gigs for tonight, tomorrow and this...
TODAY 2/28 BIG HEAD TODD AND THE MONSTERS. This goes out to one of our fave photographers. He loves these guys. (7:30 p.m., Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St., Manhattan, 212-533-2111. $27.) ERIC CLAPTON/STEVE WINWOOD. Pretty much said it all last week. Could do a riff on “Layla” … or should we say Pattie Boyd. (8 p.m., Madison Square Garden, Seventh Avenue and 32nd Street,...
Sara Bareilles in 'the' Newsday →
Here is a short preview I wrote on Sara B. for the best Long Island newspaper ever. But you better read it quick! The Newsday links go dead after two weeks.
Don't laugh.
I am still getting the hang of this “Internets” stuff.
It's me.
Still playing around with this.
Things I Did Today
I started this Web site. Yay.
